Edge Painting Videos

Edge Painting Videos

I recently did a job for a friend of mine who designed his own invitations. Below are a few progress shots, but even more interesting is that I took some video of the printing process and the edge painting. I narrated it (somewhat awkwardly) with some voice overs after the fact which I hope will be helpful. No one in the letterpress industry seems to want to share the trade secrets, but I’m happy to pass it on. I’m sure many of those trade secrets include tips that work even better than my method, but nonetheless I hope it will help you!

You can find the videos of me printing and edge painting this job in this link:

I would love to watch the video, but I can’t find it on the page that was linked?

Thank you so much for sharing this, and your process. I have been trying different methods of edge painting for a while now, with little satisfaction. I never did use an airbrush though, so it might be time to purchase one. Thank you so much for sharing!

I think the airbrush is the only way to do it. I’ve tried doing it with a palette knife and by hand – it always lays too thick a coat and the sheets stick together and tear when you peel them apart. I wouldn’t trust spray paint either because of the thickness of the spray in most brands and the tendency to spatter. Plus you cannot custom mix colors that way. This method is the only one that works for me.

Totally agree that no one wants to share these trade secrets and am sooooo grateful that you have! I’ve watched your video several times and bought all the items listed … Now I just gotta try!!
